A typical day as the Linux System Administrator

  • Installation and configuration of new Linux systems
  • Consolidation of Linux servers on existing VMware ESX server farms
  • Troubleshooting activities either independently or co-operating with external service providers
  • Editing and creating incident, problem or change tickets
  • Guaranteeing the operation of Linux servers while observing respective SLAs for different clients
  • Performing maintenance activities and planning maintenance time windows
  • Communication with customers and partners about measures to eliminate incidents
  • Operative IT management according to ITIL in the roles of incident, problem and change manager
  • Providing 24/7 support

 

Foundational Knowledge or Practical Experience

  • Advanced Diploma in Information Technology or related discipline
  • Knowledge in Linux, Unix and Windows servers
  • Ability to work well in a dynamic, fast-paced environment
  • Vmware administration experience will be considered an asset
  • Knowledge of the German language will be considered an asset

Mellieha Holiday Centre – IT Administrator Vacancy

ROLE AND RESPONSIBILITIES

1.  Running regular checks on the network and data security.

2.  Daily checks of all log files created.  Internet and email usage, network security, backup and other third-party software.

3.  Collection of IT usage statistics.

4.  Identifying and acting on opportunities to improve and update software and systems.

5.  Design, develop, implement and co-ordinate systems, policies and procedures.

6.  Conducting regular system audits.

7.  Overseeing and determining timeframes for major IT projects including system updates, upgrades, migrations and outages.

8.  Managing and reporting on allocation of IT Budget.

9.  Reporting of Telephone usage in the Centre (Guests and Office).

10. Reporting of printer’s usage by user (Xerox printers).

11. Configuration and installation of IT solutions.

             –  Servers and Network Devices

             –  New PC’s and peripherals such as printers

             –  Maintaining fibre optic and IPTV solutions

             –  Report faults on systems such as PABX or similar which are maintained by subcontractors.

             –  Helping and advising co-workers in identifying and resolving faults on physical infrastructure, cables, connections etc.

12. Assisting co-workers with everyday IT needs.

13. Setting up new users and management of security, passwords and backup.

14. Design, develop and implement data protection policies making sure that the company is in line with GDPR requirements.

15. Configure, expand and auditing of CCTV system making sure that it is on-line and operational.

16. Co-ordinating with external suppliers of IT equipment and services.

17. Keeping software licenses up-to-date.

We're looking for a TV NOC Engineer to monitor and operate our TV systems, and who will be reporting to the Senior Video Systems Engineer. 

It would be essential for you to have:

  • A recognised ICT/Engineering related Degree. CCNA/LPIC certification would be considered an asset.
  • A flair for video or broadcast technologies. Working experience in this area would be an asset.
  • Be comfortable working within a highly IT-oriented environment
  • Be fluent spoken and written English in view of constant liaising with international parties.

  • Monitoring of all TV systems including Satellite and other video related equipment, Video Playout systems, Linux and Microsoft Windows servers, Storage systems and IP networks.

  • Day-to-day operational tasks such as deployment of patches, testing, playlists preparation, backups, and script execution.

  • Have knowledge of Autocad.
  • Plan, design, and document GO’s Fixed Network according to standards and policies. 
  • Issue work orders and documents to GO’s implementation contractors.
  • Support implementers on-site to clear up any issues on the spot.
  • Assist clients and colleagues with deploying the most effective network.
  • Monitor network utilisation and take action to upgrade resources as required.
  • Measure and certify any works done by contractors to standard. 

The ideal candidate, should have:

  • Draftsman Technical Diploma in City and Guilds or relevant qualifications.
  • ECDL base or equivalent skills.
  • Experience in a  network or electrical installation design.
  • Approaches work with common sense and a good attitude, is adaptable to the exigencies of work and can be depended upon to see a job to its end.
  • Is courteous and communicates appropriately with the public, fellow employees, supervisors and customers.
